Once your site is setup, now it’s time to start populating it with your trips, travel events and blog posts. The following are a few of the more common posts you might create, but feel free to get creative.
Create a Trip Post
When you create a trip post you will want to share details about where you went and what you did on your trip. You may do this through writing a few descriptive paragraphs, adding pictures, or even adding videos. Another interesting feature that we have added to our Travel Blogger WordPress theme is the ability for you to feature a mapped location of where you went by going under the “Enter Address Related to Post” section and typing in the address for the location that you visited. We will go over some of the basic steps for creating a Trip Post below. (See Fig X Images 1 and 2)
- In the WP-Admin area, go to POSTS > ADD NEW
- Assign the Post to the “Trips” category so this post will display with all your other trips posts
- Set a Featured Image using photos from your trip. The featured image is important, as that is what the Travel Blogger WordPress theme will display if you choose to feature your trip in the main Featured Post Area.
- Fill in the Post’s detals…
- Enter a title that reflects the place you visited, for example “My Adventures in Santa Barbara” (keeping the title a little shorter and simple is better for SEO.)
- Enter in some details about the location you visited
- Add any other personal details, photos, or videos that you want to about your trip.
- To use the Travel Blogger Global Google Map Widget and the in post Travel Blogger Google Map feature to map the location that you visited use the following steps: (See Fig X Image 2)
- On your post editor screen on the right hand side you will find the Enter Address Related to Post section.
- Under this section type or copy and paste the short code that you see in the first paragraph under this section into the bottom of your post.
- After you have either typed or pasted this code into your post, you will then see a blank field below the paragraph with the short code.
- Type the address of the location that you visited into this blank field.
- You must enter a valid address. It can be either the full address of a location, or just city/state name or just a zipcode, e.g.: 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043 or San Diego, CA or 92110
- After this is done click the UPDATE button on your post editor page, and when you go to look at your post on your main site, you will see a map has appeared at the bottom of your post with the geo location of the address that you just put in. If you look at the left sidebar of your screen, you will also see this location has been featured in the Travel Blogger Global Google Map (also titled “My Locations”) Widget.
- Click PUBLISH. Congratulations, you have just created your first Trip Post!

Create a Travel Event Post
If you decide to also use a Calendar plugin, like WP-Calendar, then creating a Travel Event Post should have two steps. 1) Create a regular Post and assign it to the Travel Events category, and 2) Create a Calendar entry and assign it to the Travel Events category. This way you can write something more detailed in your Travel Event Post, and still have it marked on your Calendar.
- In the WP-Admin area, go to POSTS > ADD NEW
- Assign the Post to the “Travel Events” category so this post will display with all your other Travel Events, and in the Travel Blogger Latest Content sidebar that you created for events.
- Fill in any event details
- Click PUBLISH

Hi! Love your theme, I’ve used it on my personal travel journal website.
Just wondering how I can change the CSS for the front page to:
- show the full post instead of excerpt; and
- more the comments to under the post.
I’m happy with all the other pages, though really want the home page just to show the latest post in entirety.
Thanks
Kylie
Hi Kylie,
Great to hear the theme works for you! Thanks for your support.
To show the full text you’ll need to do the following:
Open the file named “loop-home.php” and on line 49, you should see this , change it to
You will also need to edit “loop.php” if you want this change to happen on the entire site, so on line 115, change to
As for the comment, I’m not sure where you wish to display more comments, on posts and pages there shouldn’t be any limits to the number of comments displayed.
Remember, that when altering the theme’s core files, you will lose any modifications when updating to newer versions. So make sure to take notes of custom changes to reapply them.
All the best
Hello, congratulations for the theme. But I have a problem.
How ever, despite having turned on the comments, I’m not commenting on the articles? How come there is no form of comments? He’s just in the pages, and not in the articles! What should I do?
It is also possible to remove the writing There Are No comments, click here Be the first one! preview of the article?
Let me know what to do and I’m sorry my English!
Luigi
The option to turn comments on or off is located on the edit post / edit page area for each individual post or page. At the top right find where it says “screen options” and make sure “discussion” is checked. Under the content of the post or page there is a a check box to turn comments on or off. As for the comment box on the preview, our theme currently does not have the control to get rid of that box, but we are considering adding that option.

How i can move the comment under the post?
There is a way to handle the elements that i read at begin “admin,September 23″ etc etc how i normally do with blogger types?
Sorry for my bad englis and my bad wordpress skills
Many Thanks
Alvaro
The pic shows the way the comments are presented in the preview version of a post, when the full post is opened the comments appear under the post.
Hello,
Great theme!
One thing I can’t work out – When I enter a location in the ‘Enter Address Related to Post’ section on the right hand side of admin for a particular post, and then click ‘publish’ the text I entered changes to read instead of the address I entered to ‘array’. So if I edit the post content and click update, the map pinpoints a place called ‘array’. Is there a way to keep the postcode or zipcode etc in this text box, rather than it changing to ‘array’?
Thanks!
Mersea,
I will have one of our developers get back to you about this little bug. Thanks for contacting us and we will be in touch shortly.

Hi, Great Theme. So far I have figured out everything and it looks like it will work great!
BUT (isn’t there always a (“but”) I can’t figure out how to load a picture to use as an avatar for my profile. It must be under the USER>MY PROFILE menu but I am missing it. Thanks for your help! bob
Bob,
You have to sing up with one of the services that wordpress pulls graphics from (like Gravitar), you can see the other services like this on the users settings page, but WordPress doesn’t have the ability to upload your own avatar. Hope that this helps.

Another problem has cropped up. I went to insert pictures into a post and all went well, except the pictures all get cropped down to just the center of the picture. Tried 3 different pictures, same thing on each. Any ideas? Bob
Bob,
Are you talking about inserting a picture into the body of a post, or are you talking about the thumbnails of the image in the post? The thumbnails for the post automatically size themselves, but if you are talking about inserting a picture into the body of the post, then this shouldn’t happen, so there may be a bug that we need to fix. Can you let us know which you are referring to? Thanks!
